Spring is coming! It’s time to get a head start on your office spring cleaning. Not sure where to begin? Here are 9 office spring cleaning tips to get you started.

1. Wipe down all surfaces.

From desktops and conference tables to door handles, light switches and thermostats, it all should be wiped down. Pay special attention to all surfaces that are touched regularly, but leave no surface uncleaned.

2. Clear out and clean out any kitchen appliances or shelves.

It’s time to tackle the fridge. Throw out all the moldy sandwiches that have been hiding in the back and give your refrigerator or freezer a thorough clean. Clean your overused coffee maker, your microwave, toaster oven and any other kitchen appliances.

Also, go through your kitchen cabinets and shelves, which tend to collect a random assortment of items. Give all your drawers a thorough wipe-down. And don’t forget about the sink. One study found that sink handles are the dirtiest places in an average office.

3. Clean air vents.

Air vents are one of the most overlooked items in any building, despite the fact that the air we breathe every day is filtered through them. Make sure to change your air filters and thoroughly remove dust from your vents.

4. Wipe down windows.

Nothing is as obviously dirty as a smudged or filthy window. Wipe down all your windows and use a glass cleaner to get your windows as clear as possible.

5. Organize your office supplies.

Take inventory of all of your supplies and clean out your storage space. This is a great opportunity to restock on necessary cleaning products and office supplies to keep your business running smoothly throughout the rest of the year.

6. Mop your floors.

You don’t know where your staff or customers have been. Every day, they’re tracking in dirt and germs on the soles of their shoes. So, it’s essential that you invest in both wet mops and dry mops to remove all of the dirt and bacteria that’s built up over the past year. Make sure to remove all water and cleaning solutions after you’re done to prevent damage from moisture.

7. Disinfect electronics.

Your keyboard is 20,000 times dirtier than your toilet. Get out those disinfecting wipes and go to town on your keyboard, phone, mouse and computer screen. And while your at it, purge your computer of unnecessary files and organize everything into folders. An organized desk is an organized mind.  

8. Go through your papers and files.

Do you really need that order confirmation for branded pens from 2014? Shred it. What are the odds you need your hotel reservation from that business trip back in 2016? Very slim.
